As the ‘Fauna’ series has been developing in my studio, I’ve realized that I am moving from fur to feathers; back and forth.
So, here we are with the third in the series, and with Tigercat, I’m back to fur and what might be seen as a wild animal (as in Seul Loup), but this is a fantasy of fur and warmth; a tiger that is tame, lovable, and even cuddly.
The inspiration for Tigercat is two-fold: the opening accord refers to a bohemian moonshine, distilled at the height of Prohibition, that was called “Tigercat”. (It was an orange peel concoction with an apparent “bite” when imbibed). The underlying animalic-ambery design is inspired by that fantasy feline…complete with lusciously thick orange and black fur, who purrs when stroked and loves to love. In keeping with the Prohobition-era vibe, there is a vintage-y, retro-nouveau quality to the construction due to the use of sweet myrrh, oud, peru & tolu balsams, benzoin, and vanilla (labdanum was purposely left out as I wanted to create a different variation on the traditional “amber” accord).
Of course, at the very heart of Tigercat is civet (or a civet accord, as natural civet was not used). This civet note is warmed and softened by the many layers of fur and ambers…making it more friendly and amiable. Tigercat will be a beautiful compliment to the coming Autumn and Winter months. Tigercat is the tiger’s warm embrace.

Wonderful! It’s certainly not a beginner animalic, but if you know you like them then this is a no-brainer to sample. Powerful and cozy. To my nose it’s oily instead of powdery, but without cumin and with an overall fuzzy quality. The gentlest hint of orange adds interest and a bit of winter cheer. Tigercat would probably be unbearable in summer, but it’ll be so nice to smell lingering on a sweater sleeve in late fall and winter!

A delicious warming velvet amber infused with a boozy orange that manages to bring both brightness and depth to this sensual cocktail. Can’t stop sniffing my arm. Perhaps now my favorite animalic blend by Dawn. Decadent and absolutely swoonworthy!!

This smells like being wrapped in a decadent fur while you drink a hot toddy in a plush armchair in a ski lodge. It is velvety and warm and cheery.
