Description

Pure Elegance.

Is there any higher elegance in fashion than a tuxedo?  And Iris; perhaps the most elegant note in perfumery.  Here they are, joined together.

Iris Tuxedo is a unique interpretation of a black iris.  The hue, such a deep plum that it verges on pure black.  The iris stands, the epitome of cool grace.  Its ruffled edges that float like fine silk crepe and a bearded inner chamber as lush as dense velvet.  The fragrance is just as luscious, rich, and opulent as its texture.  Iris Tuxedo opens with a sensuous black plum and cassis topnote that slides into decadent orris butter,  florentine iris flower notes, and black tea.  The base is a sensual root of ambrette, natural oakmoss, *deer musk, and myrrh.

(*synthetic deer musk.  There are no true animal notes in Iris Tuxedo).

This is a really wonderful iris that is accented by a liquer-like plum/berry/stone fruit note. It almost feels like a “dusky” or “nighttime” take on the iris-peach of Scent of Hope/Iris Gris. Sweet but well-balanced and woody, rooty, etc. Iris lovers should definitely investigate!

This fragrance is actually really amazing. My previous review was for Tsukiyo-en, and as subtle and soft as the transitions between the top, middle, and base notes were in that fragrance, the transitions in Iris Tuxedo seem intentionally obvious to me in a good way. In fact, upon reflecting on the transitions I realized that when wearing the fragrance it is exactly like putting on a three piece tuxedo – what a brilliant concept. The opening on me is full of luscious purple fruit – plums, cassis, blackberry. The drydown is to a powdery orris heart which lasts 1-2 hours, which then transitions to a clear rose accord on my skin which I can honestly still smell the next day. This is a beautiful work of art, skillfully woven and orchestrated with intention and vision.

This is a rich fragrance that has nice sillage and great longevity. It does start out with a deep plummy, fruity odor but all the edges are soft. The wonderful orris sparkles it’s way to the top shortly after application and it’s complexity develops to a more beautiful dry-down over time.
This is definitely a favorite for me, marking me into an orris fan.

My new favorite! This is a very stylish, expensive, elegant iris that I’ve tried. The plum notes and tea give it a special charm.

Sweet and sour, juicy plums are very attractive, irises hide below to provide a nice sense of butter, spices and musk provide a little smoky texture, a perfect bottle of flower and fruit perfume
