-Les Nouveaux Bohemes  {no.16}: From wikipedia:This use of the word (Bohemian) in the English language was imported from French in the mid 19th century and was used to describe the non-traditional lifestyles of marginalized and impoverished artists, writers, journalists, musicians, and actors in major European cities.^[1]. 

In the 21st century, it seems to me that the time has come for a new way of thinking of being a “Bohemian”.  The NEW Bohemians: we stand together in our isolation,  as individuals in our own artistic streams but collectively, we come together with deep care and respect for the earth and for each other.  We create community around this connection and work to create a world where everyone can thrive.  The fragrance is an abstraction based on ideas of gender fluidity, sustainability (using sustainable materials), hopeful aspirations, contemplative mindfulness, and a grounded, earthly truth: that we all belong.  Spiritual elements as well as a connection to healing plants are prominent…we create the outer world from the inner space.  This is an elixir of this moment; a scent of possibilities and community.  Nous sommes les nouveaux bohémes. -Au Coeur du Calice  {no.17}    Au Coeur du Calice, (In the Heart of the Calyx) references a long discontinued Francois Coty perfume of 1912, that was housed in one of Rene Lalique’s most famous perfume bottle designs.  It is a lovely light blue, flower shaped bottle with a gorgeous bee stopper.  Anyone who collects perfumes and perfume bottles has seen and surely coveted this rare bottle…and I am among them.  It has always inspired me and sent me into a deep reverie into what the original perfume might have smelled like.  When contemplating the design for this Heirloom Elixir edition, I knew that I wanted to focus on the fleshy petaled beauty, Magnolia.  I also wanted to create something that truly felt like Spring was bursting forth from the bottle.  I kept imagining a landscape filled with color… blossoming petals in every direction, and in every flower a bee rolling in pollen and drinking in the precious nectar.   Au Coeur du Calice is my own fragrant fantasy; a picture of Spring as seen through bees’ eyes and felt through their senses.  Au Coeur du Calice invites you to enter the bees’ inner world;  to dive down into the heart of each flower calyx, all pollen-y sweet, with fresh, and fleshy petals.   Notes:  Acacia Honey Absolute, Aldehydes, Apple Blossom, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Bulgarian Rose Otto, Champaca Absolute, Champacca Leaf co2, Florentine Iris Flower (accord), Galbanum, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Green Clover Blossoms, Honey, Honey Beeswax, Hyacinth, Italian Neroli, Jasmine, Leafy Green (accord), Musk, Orris Concrete, Ruh Khus, Sambac Jasmine, Southern Magnolia, Star Magnolia, Violet Leaf Absolute, and Ylang Ylang.

-Floating Amongst the Stars  {no.18}   I don’t usually wax existential… but the past year has had me confronting ‘being’ in ways I never expected to.   I think that it’s the surreal sense of ‘floating’ that took me by surprise.  I don’t know if I can speak for anyone else, but 2020 had some unique sensations for me.   My states of being were pushed and pulled in unusual directions, but with the universal thread of the feeling of floating: through the seasons, into the earth, into the light, out into the darkness, and even sometimes with the sense of floating in space.  It’s this last sensation that I found inspiration in.  ‘Floating Amongst the Stars’ is an attempt to encapsulate the sense of letting go that was required, and to even allow the unknown to unfold however it would.  Throughout these periods I kept searching for poetry in the unknown; beauty in sadness, trust in fear, and peace… while floating.   Floating Amongst the Stars contains a sense of vast space; a wide open peaceful place to just be.  In these moments of letting go to just be, let’s touch the stars, be dazzled by them all the while knowing that indeed, our feet are still on solid ground.   For me this is the perfume of this very moment… and a scent for looking into a (hopeful) future that can sparkle like the stars that inspire us.   Notes: Aldehydes, Amber, Ambergris, Bergamot, East Indian Patchouli, Frankincense co2 Absolute, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Mandarin, Musk, Orris, Ozone, Rose Petals, Space (accord), Stellar Char (accord), Virginia Cedar.

-Sand Rose Bone Thrn  {no.19}  Along the Atlantic coast, there grows a salted, weather worn rose that can survive the harshest climate.   It blooms, and grows in wild brambles to bring inspiration and beauty to beach-goers and sea watchers.  This rose, dry as a bone, covered in thorns, grows in the sand.  It not only survives, it thrives.  “Sand Rose Bone Thrn” brings us to that isolated locale to feel the wind on on our face and sense its refreshing power to be rejuvenated.  It’s perfect to combat Summer heat, for beach days, or when you want to escape to the land’s end to look out over an infinity of water and sky.   Notes:  Ambergris, Ambrette Seed, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Bulgarian Rose Otto, Driftwood (Accord), East Indian Patchouli, Egyptian Rose Geranium, Fern, Frankincense (Olibanum), Galbanum, Green Oakmoss, Green Rose Leaves, Italian Neroli, Leafy Green (accord), Lemon, Lemon Balm (Melissa), Orris Root, Ozone, Palma Rosa, Rhubarb (Accord), Rose, Salted Rose (Accord), Seaweed, and Violet Leaf Absolute.

-Angel’s Wing   {no.20}   September is a time of transition and transformation from late Summer into early Autumn.  It has a unique feeling of fullness as well as the impending softening-sleep of dark days and the Winter to come.  I always feel that this Heirloom (September – October) season is the most difficult to create.  How to express the multifaceted quality of the time?   With this year’s Heirloom Elixir, no.20,  the inspiration came from a palpable sense of our own transition and transformation.  It started with the butterfly: the symbol of transformation itself.  This led me to consider two of my favorite plants: Milkweed and Jasmine.  Both are exquisitely beautiful, and both have geneses that are colloquially named “Angel’s Wing.”   And perhaps you didn’t know that both have fragrant blooms of distinct loveliness.   Angel’s Wing, the perfume, takes both the milky / sappy plant notes, as well as notes from the blossom of the milkweed plant and fuses them with the haunting scent of Angel’s Wing jasmine.  Together they create a lush, verdant, and rich scent that balances both cool and warm sensations, which makes it a perfect scent for this very time of year (and to guide us through our own transformations, too).   Notes: Acacia Honey Absolute, Ambrette Seed, Australian Sandalwood, Bergamot, Brazilian Vetiver, Carnation, Centifolia Rose Absolute, Clove Bud, French Beeswax, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Green Oakmoss, Honey, Jasmine, Leafy Green (accord), Liatrix, Milkweed (accord), Musk, Neroli, Orris Concrete, Sambac Jasmine, Spice Notes, Star Jasmine, Tunisian Neroli, Turkish Rose Otto, and Ylang Ylang.

-Raisin d’Etre   {no.21}  I love to have fun with fragrance ideas and the especially the names…this design is no exception.  I have been thinking about this perfume design for many, many years, and I’m thrilled to find its time has come.  🙂     Being someone who has been fully immersed in fragrance art form for a few decades, I can say that It is one of my primary expressive reasons for being (aka my Raison d’Etre).  If I’m being completely honest, ART, in many forms is my absolute reason Knowing how I love wordplay, I couldn’t resist the urge to call this raisin inspired perfume “Raisin d’Etre”.  It’s a little silly, but the fragrance is anything but.  It’s a rich and delicious dried fruit – tobacco fragrance with a rich balsamic – resin base.  You might think it would be way too sweet with raisin as a focal note, but it’s not.   I hope that you will love this oddly gourmand fragrance (with its hints of kalamata olives!) as the perfume opens.  It makes me giggle as I apply it and downright swoon as it unfolds.  Notes: Black Tea absolute, Bourbon Vanilla, Brown Oakmoss, Bulgarian Rose Absolute, Burnt Sugar, Castoreum, Centifolia Rose Absolute, Frankincense co2 Absolute, French Beeswax, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Guaiacwood, Labdanum, Myrrh Gum, Oakwood co2, Orris Concrete, Peru Balsam, Raisin Accord, Red Wine Notes, Siam Benzoin, Spice Notes, Tobacco Absolute, Tolu Balsam, Tonka Bean Absolute, and Vanilla Absolute.
