no.4: Love Is Everything: The story behind this fragrance goes like this: One evening while sharing one of our favorite family meals (Curry), my son Xander offered us some of his FAVORITE thing in all the world, his Mango Lassi. When we asked him if he was sure he wanted to give any away, he just simply said, “Of course. I love you and love is all that matters”. It was in that moment that I thought about creating a perfume around a Mango Lassi and dedicating it to Xander. (You are an endless source of inspiration. And you are so right; when it comes down to the essence of things, Love IS everything). Notes: Ambrette Seed, Australian Sandalwood, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose Otto, Butter co2, Centifolia Rose Absolute, Champaca Absolute, Champacca Leaf co2, Creme (accord), Galub Attar, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Green Tea Absolute, Mandarin, Mango Leaf absolute, Mango Pulp (accord), Tahitian Vanilla, and Vanilla Absolute.
no.5: White Rabbits: Harbingers of Spring and Symbolic of Good Luck, Creativity, Love, and Peace, White Rabbits are magical, Lovable, and just so darn sweet. Like its namesake, our White Rabbits Heirloom Elixir is lovable, magical, and so perfect for Spring. It starts with a fresh pop of greens, early spring humidity, and a peppery flourish of carrot tops. Pushing further still into this vernal ‘Rabbit’ theme, the heart is a delicious coupling of carrot and orris, under- pinned by subtle notes of delicate pink rose otto. The drydown is an inviting, warm, and enveloping white angora fur accord woven together with a musk-like angelica and ambrette. Notes: Ambrette Seed, Angelica, Australian Sandalwood, Calendula co2, Carrot co2, Carrot Greens (Accord), Eau de Parfum, Egyptian Rose Geranium, Green Oakmoss, Iris / Orris, Musk, Mysore Sandalwood, Orris Concrete, Orris Root, Sri Lankan Vetiver, Tuberose Absolute, Turkish Rose Otto, White Bunny Fur (Accord), and Wood Violet.
no.6: Wild Coyote: This new Heirloom Elixir fragrance is all about attempting to tame the wild coyote; which is just like attempting to tame the wildly sexy and overly voluptuous ylang ylang flower. It is a ‘trickster’ ingredient that shape-shifts and morphs as you introduce it to other ingredients. AND on top of that, with every distillation and region it is grown in, the resultant raw material changes immensely. In the end, there is no way to fully make the Wild Coyote tame … it’s just best to embrace her beauty, make a home in the most delicious environment, and let your coyote run wild and free. Notes: Amber, Australian Sandalwood, Coconut Pulp co2, Damask Rose Absolute, Frankincense co2 Absolute, French Beeswax, Grandiflorum Jasmine, Green Cardamom, Leafy Green (accord), Mysore Sandalwood, Orris Concrete, Peach Skin (accord), Sambac Jasmine, Southern Magnolia, Tahitian Vanilla, Yellow Champaca, Yellow Mandarin, Yellow Orchid (accord), Ylang Ylang, Ylang Ylang Absolute, and Ylang Ylang Nosey Be.
no.7: Sharkskin: Referencing both the sleek, slightly metallic look and feel of a fabulous Sharkskin suit (both male and female) and the cool, shimmering grey-green sheen of ‘real’ sharkskin, this Heirloom Elixir design is tailor-made to get you through the steamiest days of the year.
As a ‘Retro-Modern’ fragrance, Sharkskin is neither a complete throw-back nor totally futuristic. There is a place where these two worlds collide, just as the traditional qualities of male and female fragrances collide to create a wonderful balance of sparkling lightness, luxurious depth, and ease.In my perfect fantasy, this is the scent that both Frank Sinatra AND Grace Kelly are wearing to be cool as a cucumber, the picture of elegance, and ever so fresh in the heat of the NYC summer, circa 1957. Notes: Aldehydes, Ambergris, Australian Sandalwood, Bergamot, Civet, Coumarin, Esp
no.8: Gold Leaf: Early Autumn in Northern California. Harvest time. The unearthly golden light suffuses the environment with luminous radiance while the vine leaves are turning gold from green. This is the dominant inspiration for Heirloom Elixir no.8: Gold Leaf. The luscious fecundity of the grape harvest (and the ensuing wines and cognac vintages) as well as the wonderful scent of sun-warmed grape leaves themselves layered with subtle undertones of jammy tiger figs, the quintessential pink jasmine found throughout California, and the rich earth tones that bring us into Autumn are the dominant notes of this transitional fragrance. Notes: Aldehydes, Apricot, Atlas Cedarwood, Australian Sandalwood, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose Otto, California Pink Jasmine, Cognac, East Indian Sandalwood, French Beeswax, Gold Leaf (metallic note accord), Grandiflorum Jasmine, Green Oakmoss, Green Tiger Fig (accord), Honey Musk, Immortelle, Labdanum, Leafy Green (accord), Oakwood co2, Sambac Jasmine, Tobacco Absolute, Vine Leaf, and White Grape (Accord).
no.9: Lautrec: This last Heirloom Elixir design for 2019 is a slightly modified version of an archival fragrance called Lautrec. Inspired by the inimitable French artist Toulouse-Lautrec and his images of Parisian high-life in the 19th Century. For this version, I have heightened the passionfruit accord and pushed the boozy cognac & absinthe accord just a tad further. As this fragrance will help us celebrate the Holiday Season and the coming of the New Year, it seems only fitting, to go all out. Lautrec is a gloriously luscious fruity, floral chypre-oriental that speaks of a nocturnal world filled with swirling gaiety and drunken frivolities at the Moulin Rouge. It is pure opulence, and indeed, I have nothing else in my collection quite like it. Notes: Ambery, Australian Sandalwood, Bergamot, Caramel, Centifolia Rose Absolute, Civet, Cognac, Davana, East Indian Patchouli, Labdanum, Mimosa Absolute, Moroccan Rose Absolute, Moss, Orange Flower Absolute – Spain, Orris Concrete, Passionfruit, Patchouli, Sambac Jasmine, Siam Benzoin, Spice, Sweet Absinthe, Tolu Balsam, Vanilla, and Ylang Ylang.
* The Heirloom Elixir Limited Editions Gift Set contains all 6 editions from 2019 (no.4 – no.9) in 5 ml (refillable) rollerball bottles.

While I usually gravitate toward sexy oriental fragrances (Une Robe de Zibeline is my current passion), the tender Love Is Everything has stolen into my heart. It has a gently euphoric quality that lifts my spirits and makes me want more. I think it would be heavenly in lotion form, too!

What a wonderful way to start off the year!
The opening reminds me of living in Hawaii, cutting open a Mango from the tree in my front yard.
The drydown is magnificent, Bravo Dawn!

My first experience with Dawn’s orris perfume. It is creamy with subtle earthy undertone. I like that it is very smooth, almost buttery. Nice for windy beginning of spring.

White Rabbits opens with the fresh smell of spicy raw carrots.. after the first 15 minutes or so, the Orris enters and the scent goes from slightly green and spicy to warm and buttery with some signs of carrot and pepper mixed in. After the first hour or two, a soft fur and musk appears mixed with a touch of amber. I love this fragrance because it has such a varied and interesting dry down. My only issue is that on me at least, it has no silage or projection whatsoever. It begins and ends as a skin scent. If you are in the mood for a light, lovely and different skin scent, this is definitely one you should try.

Opening up with newly peeled carrots, White Rabbits then softens into a green, orris scent. It is floral yet leaves a slight musky bunny trail while also evoking baby shampoo, powder, apple, and freshly baked bread. It is a delicate and distinctive scent.

I wish I had several extra hands so that I could give multiple thumbs-ups on this beautiful scent invention. It deserved more than only the two I have. So rich, yet so subtle–so voluptuous yet so innocent–I won’t attempt to analyze the array and evolution of its notes here, except to say that it’s more than successful in its developments and transitions, and that Dawn has once again created a marvel for day and night.

I was generously gifted a sample of edition 7 of the DSH Perfumes Heirloom collection, Sharkskin, available only through the end of August. It’s a refreshingly fresh take on the cologne concept, with familiar mix of oakmoss accords and citruses (orange, lime, neroli) as well as the heartier petitgrain, lavender, aldehydes, ambergris, and even civet. It’s a downright fascinating exploration of what a cologne can be, and is pleasantly unisex overall despite leaning a little bit masculine, at least on my skin (self-reinforcing?), but I’m an instant fan. It has a bright—but not screechy—opening, followed by a slightly more herbal and even slightly spicy and animalic dry down, but overall, it’s a very balanced, well-constructed offering, and really a fantastic option in the warm weather, in my opinion.

This is a lovely, totally unisex shapeshifter of a scent. It is fresh, but substantial and works well with skin. A fresh, bright, floral top leads to a sweet and grassy heart, and a gently aromatic drydown. It leaves a sweet, skinlike trail in the end, without an overwhelming, animal’s musk. I found this to be pleasant and longlasting.

This is such a classic, elegant scent. My hubby and I both love it. Perfect for warm weather.

If you like citrus scents and you have not tried this yet, stop reading and run to order a bottle of this. I tried this last night and I ordered a bottle before dawn because I was so afraid that I missed the deadline. If I could give this perfume a 10 I would. I like it better than than any citrus perfume I’ve ever tried ( I’m looking at you Jicky). I’m terrible at picking out individual notes, And I think that landshark in the previous review has described them perfectly. For me it may be the perfect scent of lime mixing with all of the other notes that is making me melt. I usually prefer extraits to EDPs but I’m this case I ordered both. I just want to walk around in a soft cloud of this all day.

A beautiful, delicate and yet rich fragrance in which to enter wood-laced autumn with floral reminders of spring and summer. The layers are subtle and enticing, emerging moment by moment, like a woman slowly slipping a luminous silk robe from her shoulders. I don’t know how Dawn does it; her talent always amazes me!

(for Lautrec)

I wore my sample of Lautrec yesterday, and this is a really complex perfume. It opens with resinous/ambery and herbal notes, with a touch of fruity davana. The herbal notes take prominence in the early stage of the fragrance’s development.
In the mid stages (about 4 hours or so), it becomes more sweeter and more gourmand as the herbal notes fade away. In this stage I found myself thinking of apple pie because I was smelling buttery pastry and cinnamon with a little fruit. This stage was a little bit too sweet for me at first, but it grew on me.
In the further stages of the drydown, the sweetness subsides, and it really began to remind me of Serge Lutens Chergui. I see civet listed in the notes above, but if it’s there it’s done with an exceedingly light hand. I didn’t find Lautrec particularly animalic, though I know my tolerance for civet is pretty high. But I don’t think people who are afraid of animalic notes will find too much to be scared of here.
Lautrec is a good fragrance for winter, as I think it would be too heavy for warmer weather. The lasting power is really good. I was just dabbing from a sample vial, and I got over 8 hours.

Lautrec is a very interesting fragrance. It seemed to be all puffs of smoke for a half hour on me but then dried down to an elegant, powdery, feminine whisper.

For me Lautrec evokes happy memories of Grandma making me waffles with thick syrup and jam for breakfast. A truly comforting scent. Something definitely to wear at night and on a cold chilly day. Every note in the perfume is a lovely companion to one an other creating a sumptuous masterpiece of love in a tiny little bottle. Benzoin, Tolu, carmel, llang llang, vanilla melt into each magically other creating a syrupy delicious topical delight. To me it smells very similar to Dawns Untitled 9 at Lucky Scent, but is less expensive, and a little stronger with sweet notes. Almost gourmand! Better than Ginestet Botrytis!

(White Rabbits). White Rabbits dives down a hole of delightful contradictions. At its heart lies orris, its powdery earthiness taking center stage. But fear not, for this is no dusty antique. The fragrance is ultra comforting and wearable. Musk and a touch of ambrette weave in warmth, while a subtle creaminess softens the edges. Bunny fur accord adds a whimsical and comforting touch, making White Rabbits a truly unique olfactory adventure. Orris lovers, rejoice! This is a must-try, but even the uninitiated will find themselves captivated by its unexpected charm; it is an Orris Wonderland. 🙂

This review is for Lautrec! I got it as a free sample with my order. 🙂
Lautrec has a kind of licorice / anise smell to me as it goes on (that’s swigging absinthe down at the Moulin Rouge, I suppose). “Luscious” really is the right word for it—I can smell other pieces of the fragrance (particularly the vanilla), but the effect of the whole thing is simply intense and heady as different parts of it shift in and out of focus. I love it and will get a proper bottle whenever I order from DSH again.

Sharkskin – I got it in 5 mL VdP, and it’s an absolutely beautiful silvery smooth and slightly animalic musk. At first I thought it was a bit too much because the opening is almost aggressive bright but it quickly became extremely pleasant and I was sniffing my wrist all day. It really matches its name! Silvery grey/blue is the perfect color match to this perfume.
