I am really torn in my review of Bois du Chocolat. If I could base my review on the first 10 minutes of the scent, it’s a five, hands down. Rich, dark cocoa, and a deep, satisfying sandalwood, touched by the slightest hint of patchouli, surround me in a warm embrace. The patch is very restrained, and the scent is gourmand, without going sweet. Pure heaven. Unfortunately for me, my skin amplifies the powdery aspects of most musks, and it’s the musk note that changes this fragrance for me after about 10 minutes. Suddenly, the woody dark chocolate recedes, and all I can smell is powder. I am a bit surprised by this development, only because I own and adore several of Dawn’s musks – including Egyptian Musk, Oriental Musk, Turkish Musk, Evolution, and Musk of the Mosque – and hers are the only ones that generally *don’t* turn to powder on my skin. (Must be a different variation of musk.) Alas, as I’m not a fan of powder notes, I probably won’t purchase a full bottle of this one. If I could capture and keep the top notes this fragrance, I would most certainly buy it. If you love rich, non-sweet gourmands and musks don’t go the powder route on your skin, I would absolutely encourage you to try Bois du Chocolate; you will love it!

I absolutely love this perfume, I was searching for a patchouli / musky fragrance that wasn’t over board and I think I’ve found it. I love love this 🙂

I am a long-time lover of DSHperfumes. This was among the first of her scents I owned and I am so happy to see it return. This is my “sexy smell” – when I’m going out and want to feel that extra kick of “I’ve got it” I put on Bois du Chocolate. It is warm and inviting, reminiSCENT of the possibilities in front of a fire on a long slow night.

Wow! Now I can see why this perfume was brought back due to overwhelming customer demand. It smells fabulous and it has a little story to tell. “Bois du Chocolat” literally means “chocolate log.” At Christmastime in France, you will see these “Chocolate Logs” for sale everywhere– from the grocery store to the outdoor markets to the various bakeries. This perfume is very clever because it actually co-mingles chocolate scents with wood (get it– logs) scents. The musk on the dry down really smooths down the temperament of the fragrance. Would definitely reccommend.

This is a gorgeous unisex scent that is perfect for the colder months when you crave something warm, sexy, and delicious: a chocolate, patchouli, vanilla, sandalwood, and musk blend that I cannot stop sniffing.

Scent is so subjective, it almost seems unfair to try to rate it, because what one person loves, another person may hate. And then, perhaps the olfactory sense differs from person to person and one can detect all the notes and nuances, and another, not so much. I love fragrance, but I wonder if I’m in the not so much category. I never got even the most remote note of chocolate as I tried out my sample many times. Mainly, an overly sweet, “head shop” type of incense bullied me into submission. I have a coworker who also loves fragrance and when I sampled this one, she thought I smelled wonderful whereas I was veering towards nausea. I gave her the rest of my sample. There are some days when she drifts by, and she leaves the most scrumptious trail, and I say, “Wow, you smell good, ” and she laughs and says she is wearing the sample that I gave her. Maybe personal chemistry really does factor in a big way how a scent develops. I wanted to love this–chocolate? woods? what’s not to love?–but again it didn’t work for me. I detracted only one star for this, because on the right person–my coworker!–it is a stunner.

In general, I am not a big fan of chocolate scents. I think that as a proud chocoholic, I perhaps expect too much from them. But then I tried Bois du Chocolate. Today is the day after Easter and I, of course, ate a fair amount ( oh all right, a huge amount) of chocolate today. Having chocolate on the brain, I tried a sample of this for the first time tonight. I wish I had tried it earlier in the day: I could have saved myself about 3000 calories! The chocolate and the wood (sandalwood perhaps?) blend so perfectly that I think I could be as happy walking around in a cloud of this as eating a basket of chocolate eggs:). It’s truly beautiful and if you love the smell (or taste) of chocolate, I would highly recommend it.

I’ve made a ritual of purchasing Dawn’s Holiday Collection scents and wearing them through the month of December. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about a chocolate scent, but I have completely fallen for this fragrance.
On me, Bois du Chocolate is exactly the delicious chocolate, musk, and wood scent described. When it first goes on, I get a momentary unpleasant jangle of notes, but it settles almost immediately. A gorgeous chocolate emerges and blends beautifully with suggestions of wood notes. It is simply stunning—and a bit addictive. I see that others have complained that this fragrance turns to powder on them—but I haven’t had that experience.
I love wearing Bois du Chocolate through the frosty winter. It is a lovely warm and subtly seductive choice.

Unfortunately, I felt as if the chocolate portion of this scent did not last long on me and then turned to powder. It started off with an exceptionally sweet, spiced, powdery scent, with the undertone of chocolate. It then turned to a powdery, patchouli mix with a hint of spice and no more chocolate. I will say that is it subtle and well-mixed, just not the sort of scent I wanted.

A very lovely, sophisticated gourmand. If you enjoy woodsy chocolate scents, this one is for you. It’s not playful sweet, but rather a mature cocoa that goes a step above other chocolates, thanks to the beauty of the woods and musks.
My only complaint is that it does seem rather quiet on my skin- it’s not a very powerful scent on me. I prefer scents that provide a bit more of a scent bubble!
