Description

At the darkest times we need solace; comfort and warmth are paramount.  The Dark Moon signals a new beginning…

This Holiday Season, the New Moon / Dark Moon comes just after the winter solstice and in the northern hemisphere, the darkest day of the year.  As for me, I plan to go inside (literally and figuratively), sip dark wine, eat dark chocolate, and commune with my soul.  This is the perfume that I’ll take with me… for comfort and companionship.

*VdP sample vials, as well as Voile Parfum mini roller vials, are full.

This is my new go to layering scent; I often use it with Piment et Chocolat, and even Sweet Dreams. It just works for me. I wasn’t crazy about this when I first opened the package, but after a week it just smelled fabulous. I don’t know if it oxidised a tiny bit upon use, but it’s another one of Dawn’s magical potions that just smells so sultry and alluring that I find myself reaching for it first. It’s one of those that have me putting my wrist to my nose…a lot.

Dark Moon is a beautiful dark chocolate fragrance. Although dark chocolate is the most prominent note, the red wine, spices, and woody notes are perceptible. Dark Moon is gourmand but it’s not too sweet; in fact, the chocolate is akin to unsweetened cocoa powder on my skin. It’s perfect for autumn and winter. I highly recommend this one for chocolate lovers.

This is very beautiful, dark and almost gothic, yet also so cheerful. How does Dawn achieve such dichotomies?? I never thought I was a fan of gourmand fragrances, but now I want to explore this genre. That’s what is amazing about DSH perfumes: you can explore so many genres and you just won’t go wrong.

I have an absurd number of fragrance samples that I have purchased or have generously been placed in my DHS orders. Thank goodness for samples–this has led to my purchasing larger sizes of fragrances of astonishing beauty and uniqueness (Hansa Yellow, I’m talking about you!). There is a chocolate note outright in Dark Moon, but not in an overpowering gourmand way. I wish I were better at picking out and describing notes, and am trying to educate myself by buying a Fragrance Notes Educational Kit from The Perfumer’s Apprentice. I think calling this a chocolate chypre is accurate; and is an amazing creation. Who else would have thought of this except Ms. Hurwitz? I love that she includes her creative process about so many of her perfumes–the inspiration, the history. I learn so much just by browsing! How many companies can you say that about!

This was my first bottle of DSH and I absolutely fell in love with it. Such a luxurious spiced chocolate liqueur! It has a subtle floral scent, perfect for winter.
