From the archives comes another installment of the ‘Retrograde Files’ (September, 2017). These designs are a remix of a scents we had to stop making as the ingredients weren’t available any longer, etc., but now we’ve seen clear to envision them in a whole new light.
Une Robe de Zibeline, was originally released as a more spiced amber oriental fragrance with subtle animalic hints. In keeping with the renewed interest in Retro-Nouveau / Animalic perfumes, this version is a full scale vintage style ambery fragrance. It has an antique fur quality about it as well as that old school sexy musk in the drydown.
I would call this a smoldering fragrance… one of flickering candle light in a dimly lit room.
Une Robe de Zibeline has certainly graduated to a romantic, floral-ambery-animalic perfume; ready to be worn alone with nothing else (as any good sable coat should).

Sexy, dark, animalic. I get something like spiced caramel too, although my skin tends to make everything sweeter. This scent is reminiscent of vintage formulas, so it has that feel that some people call mature. However, there’s no powdery notes that are the telltale sign of grandma scents.

I never knew the original version, but I can’t imagine it surpassing this one in quality and richness. The musky underbelly keeps the heady florals from getting out of control – the balance is perfect. Every time I get a little whiff of it … swoon!

This is gorgeous! It reminds me of Euphorisme d’Opium in its voluptuous classic oriental nature, but it’s smoother and somehow more hypnotic. It may even have edged out Euphorisme as my favorite glamourpuss sexy DSH fragrance. Fortunately I don’t have to choose between them, but if you love Dawn’s Opium-inspired fragrances, you must try this one. It’s luscious.

And this is the perfect time for Dawn Spencer Hurwitz to proudly show off her skills in this type of perfumery, coming back in her vast catalog of creations and giving new life to some of them.
Un Robe de Zibeline is part of this collection called ‘Retrograde Files’, part of designs that according to the artist came out of production due to a shortage of certain ingredients and today come to life in new interpretations. With this one the artist’s goal is to create an amber spicy oriental with subtle animalic touches, a fur coat texture and a classic musky touch at the base.
The description is perfect and Un Robe de Zibeline is just an old fashioned amber, whose use of (I suppose) nitro musks creates the subtle animalic aura and the nuances of fur coat. It’s as if putting it on the skin you’re back in the glamor classic time, as if jazz were still the music of the moment and we were in one of those clubs you only see in the movies. The progression in a way makes me think of Chanel No 5, which was very influential at the time, but the execution has the sexiest glamor of a Lavin, where aldehydes, spices and flowers gain a more naughty aura due to a little more of animal musk touch on the skin. For those who like old fashion glamor, Zibeline’s Robe is a masterpiece.

This is so warm and inviting. Silky and soft, playfully sensual fur and flowers. Quite the dynamic. I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

Just beautiful. One of my favorites, yet I have been unable to write a review, not sure of exactly what to write. Then I realized, sometimes it’s easier to say what something is NOT, than what it is. It’s through contrast that we learn to like what we like even more! For starters, there is a definite “sweetness” in this, but it is by NO means a gourmand at all (perhaps this comes from the ylang-ylang?). This is also certainly an animalic scent, but one in which I pick up NO hints whatsoever of anything ‘dirty’ or ‘fecal,’ just the exquisite warmth of being wrapped in plush fur. There is also the hint of a flickering flame, like a candle…but no smell of smoke, flame or wax. And though this may also be reminiscent of vintage style perfumes due to its’ luxuriousness, it is very unique and one of a kind…too new and different to be a copy of something ‘old.’ I adore it…

I have the oil and the EDP spray. I prefer the oil. Slinky, sexy, lasts an eon. The EDP isn’t as rich and seems sweeter.

This is an absolutely gorgeous scent. I have small decants of the original, and this is more than simply a “harkening back”; it’s memory and a hazy future combined with sensual, lovely scent. Absolutely love!

This is a stunning blend. Rich, smooth, sweet but not gourmand, animalic but not aggressive. Very elegantly sexy.
It’s gorgeous and exactly what I wanted. A perfect balance of sweet, spice, and musk.
