$6.00 – $235.00

A rich, provocative, and super sexy animalic / spicy ambre perfume.  Inspired by the parfum formulation of the Opium fragrance from the 1970’s, this original formula is amazing on both men and women.

Description

Have you ever noticed that there are some fragrances that make people go completely bonkers for them??  They can’t get enough and no other perfume will ever do to replace it?

The original YSL Opium perfume is one of these fragrances.  After I created “Euphorisme d’Opium” for the YSL Retrospective at Denver Art Museum, I was contacted from far and wide to create an original fragrance that represents the sensuality and depth of “Opium Parfum” (Euphorisme is based more on the spicier, original eau de toilette formulation).

It’s almost a kind of insanity, this love and reverence for one perfume…hence Fou d’Opium.

Let’s go crazy.

I would give this another 5 stars if I could. YSL Opium (vintage formulation) was one of the major perfumes of my life and while it’s 30 years out of fashion I still don’t love any other fragrance with quite as much passion. The edt was wonderful but oh the parfum! And so I have hoarded enough bottles of each concentration to ensure that I can bathe in it and not run out before shuffling off this mortal coil. When I heard that Dawn had made an homage to the parfum I had to have it. Best blind buy ever. It is not only ‘as good’ as Opium Parfum but possibly better; the quality of the ingredients is remarkable. Deep, rich, alive, sexy, balsamic goodness that I don’t really have the writing skills to convey. If you love vintage Opium Parfum, this will make you swoon. I don’t know how anyone could not love it.
This was a much more expensive purchase than I ordinarily make – and blind – and given that I do have a good bit of Opium parfum in my closet I had to think hard about it. Now that I’ve worn this I don’t regret one penny of the price, and I would be trying to get it if I didn’t have it. It’s not redundant to own this as well as Opium Parfum. A few dabs of each? Obscenely good. Magnificent.

I’ve never smelled vintage Opium, and I don’t usually wear animalic fragrances, but once I got used to it, Fou d’Opium became one of my very favorite DSH fragrances. It manages to be both sexy and cozy. Very warm, deeply feminine. I enjoy layering it with Euphorisme during the day, but in the evenings I indulge in Fou all by itself. It makes me feel pampered and luscious and irresistible.

This is one of the vintage formulas I just love!!! I love that Dawn breathes new life into these formulas so that we can enjoy these without feeling like we are in a rut and couldn’t be bothered to try something new. While I didn’t buy the YSL Opium of old, i am definitely loving this!!! i have always received compliments from random strangers every time I wear this yummy fragrance.

Holy cow, if this is what the real stuff, Opium (parfum), smelled like, fresh, back in the day, then holy mother.

This blows the current Opium edp (which I really like, btw) and the current edt out of the water.

It also says see ya! to any sad little bottles of Opium parfum that I’ve been able to find on eBay.

I think, if you are an Opium lover, you must have this. I have an original bottle of Opium edt, and this is so superior. It’s almost too much, to be honest. Just get a sample vial and fall in love. I’m happy to stop my vintage Opium eBay hunting now. This is the mic drop.

    Spices, folly, richness.

The vintage YSL Opium was my signature scent for years. Then the formulation changes began and it wasn’t me anymore. I have pined for the original for 30 years. Then I discovered a review of Dawn’s Euphorisme and my heart skipped a beat.

I bought samples of both Fou d’Opium and Euphorisme. While the latter was lovely and pinged my memory of the original Edt, when I put on the Fou, I reclaimed my swagger and thought, “B***h is back!!” This perfume encapsulates the strength and raw sex appeal that I loved so much. It feeds my soul.

I so remember when Opium came out. The opulent ads; the craze. I got a small spray bottle of the EDT and while I liked it, it wore me, rather than I wore it. Such a fragrance demands someone with confidence and a more mature sense of self I think. Back then maybe it was an aspirational scent! Now I’m almost 60. I haven’t pursued getting any vintage samples of Opium so I cannot say how this Fou d’Opium compares. But I have sampled this and the Euphorisme d’Opium and both are excellent. I prefer Euphorisme and got a larger size. This version is more animalic and great in its own right. It is not, how shall I say, trying as hard as the original Opium was to be unique and demanding of attention, and in this sense, I believe that Ms. Hurwitz’s creations are actually better. In the sense that, if one must go to extremes to demand attention, it betrays a more profound insecurity. I would say that all of the DSH fragrances invite exploration, contemplation, an open mind, curiosity, and fluidity. It is a sort of interesting paradox. The idea of bespoke, which is exclusive (i.e. keeping out) married with her sense of inquiry, curiosity, memory and process, which is inclusive! If you loved the original Opium, and like a bit of skank, this will no doubt suit.
