Description

Flor de Cana {Heirloom Elixir no.32} : Based on a Cuba Libre Cocktail, Flor de Cana takes you from a fizzy, citrus zest and spiced rum topnote through a tropical cane flower and fresh cane juice heart, to a drydown of classic cola (with all that sexy, delicious warmth).   Flor de Cana (Cane Flower) is our first release in the Mixology & Mocktails series. It’s based on the ‘Cuba Libre’ cocktail (aka a Rum & Coke) but with a fragrant and textural twist: we’ve added fresh cane juice and cane flower accords to fill in the heart of the perfume and infusing a lush, tropical feel to the fragrance. Distilled lime juice paired with rum gives a bright and boozy fizz to the topnote that dries down to a rich, warm, and sweet cola base filled with spiced sensuality. It’s utterly delicious (and perfect to start the year with something uplifting AND rich).  Notes: Ambergris, Boozy, Cane Flower (Accord), Caramel, Classic Cola (Accord), Fresh Cane Juice (Accord), Fresh Lemon, Lime Juice, Lime Peel, Rhum accord, Spice Notes, Vanilla, and  Vanilla Absolute. 

Whiskey + Ginger {Heirloom Elixir no.33}:  A zesty and refreshing unisex fragrance with fresh citrus, lemon peel, and pink peppercorn in the top note, piquant and warming ginger spice, and a rich base of whiskey and woods in the drydown.   Our second release in the 2024 series, “Mixology & Mocktails”, is Whiskey + Ginger; inspired by the fabulously spicy and refreshing “Horse’s Neck Cocktail”. This surprisingly simple is infused with myriad flavors from the rich spice of ginger, to the multifaceted subtleties of rye whiskey… all topped with a sunny and energizing burst of lemon juice and peel. The result is nothing less than sublime.  When you wear Whiskey + Ginger, you ‘ll feel the body brought to the citrus-y lift by the warm, slightly smoky vibe of the rye whiskey note and how it lingers on the skin. Paired with piquant spice, also brought by the rye whiskey mixed with ginger and heightened by pink peppercorn, it’s truly magical.  Whiskey + Ginger is the perfect refreshment to take us into the warmer months of Spring and Summer. the Stratosphere {Heirloom Elixir no.34}: An aldehydic indigo-violet and deep red rose fragrance with green violet leaf edges, Bulgarian rose otto, wild berries and cassis in the heart, and a rich vetiver-chypre drydown.   As Spring can be a time of wildly varied temperature and experience, this year we decided that only one Heirloom Elixir release for Spring wouldn’t been enough to speak to this year’s theme, “Mixology & Mocktails”. So, we’re doing something different: we’ve made a split screen of two very different experiences to bring us into the warmer, blooming times of the year.  The Stratosphere, based on the “Stratosphere Cocktail” (made from the liqueur Creme Yvette and Champagne), is an inspired and unique take on a quintessentially Springtime floral note: Violet. Unlike many fresh or powdery, candied violet fragrances, the Stratosphere is dark, with twinkling stars and deeply sophisticated with a slight nod to a retro style of fragrance while remaining quite modern.  Creme Yvette, made popular during the Belle Epoque, is nearly a perfume unto itself. Created from French violet and rose petals, wild strawberries, red raspberries, cassis, subtle spices, and vanilla, Creme Yvette dazzles and soars to new heights when paired with the dry effervescence of champagne. This is the essence of the Stratosphere.  The Stratosphere is a violet fragrance like no other in our catalogue; it’s a gorgeous aldehydic indigo-violet fragrance paired beautifully with Bulgarian rose otto, wild strawberry and raspberries, and a deep, earthy drydown.   Notes: Aldehydes, Aldehydic, Bergamot, Bulgarian Rose Otto, Cassis Bud, East Indian Patchouli, Green Oakmoss, Indonesian Vetiver, Lemon, Musk, Neroli, Orris, Orris Concrete, Pink Champagne (Accord), Raspberry, Red Rose, Rose, Rosewater, Violet, Violet Leaf Absolute, and Wood Violet.

ORANGE BITTERS {Heirloom Elixir no.35}: A transitional fragrance abstraction based on the Aperol Spritz. ORANGE BITTERS is a fresh and bright orange fragrance with equal parts bitter peel & pith, and sweet, sparkling juice, balanced with aromatic spice, deep resinous woods, and a dash of lemony – floral prosecco.   Unlike many citrus centered fragrances, ORANGE BITTERS is a fabulously autumnal abstraction based on the ever ‘in season’, Aperol Spritz.  I mean, who can resist that inviting orange hue of Aperol glowing out from a chilled glass? (It’s incredibly mesmerizing).  In ORANGE BITTERS you feel that unmistakable aromatic signature of Aperol: a burst of oranges and citrus peels at once bitter, sweet, and spicy; heightened by a strong dose of woods, and made ever more delicious with spices and bitter roots. To my mind, it is the perfect harmony to explore the fragrant transition from late summer into the color overload of autumn.  ORANGE BITTERS pushes all of these aspects to abstraction… no longer attempting to simply portray the Aperol Spritz, but something more substantial. Of course, it has that initial blast of bitter oranges, but as it moves into the spiced floral heart and then the dry, resinous woods and roots in the base, something wonderful appears. Manhattan {Heriloom Elixir no.36}:  Inspired by the classic “Manhattan” cocktail, Manhattan is an urbanely decadent and rich boozy, fruit-smoke-gourmand fragrance with spicy rye whiskey, tobacco smoke, lush “rosso” vermouth, and a sensuous Bordeaux cherry accord.  Manhattan is the perfect fragrance to welcome the winter months, celebrate the Holiday Season, and ring in the New Year with.   Could there be a more classic cocktail than the infamous Manhattan? Ending this year’s Heirloom series, and the calendar year with the rich, celebratory, sweet and sensuous Manhattan seemed only too perfect; especially when considering the popularity of the cherry note in current perfume trends and the return of the gourmand and fruit-chouli this year.  As with so many of the other cocktail inspired fragrance designs of this Heriloom Elixir series, Manhattan is an abstraction pushing the boundaries of expressing the literal fragrance of a manhattan cocktail to bring into clearer focus the overall experience in time and place. In my mind’s eye it was 1950’s Manhattan: a smoke filled room with dark wood paneling, red leather seat covers and dim, tungsten lighting. This is THE whiskey drink for old-school cultured drinkers and fine diners.  The sweet Bordeaux cherry is what you sense first… mixed with the spiced whiskey whiff of rye. As you sip the freshly chilled cocktail, it’s all whiskey on first taste and then the rosso vermouth hits you; it’s sweet, with floral flourishes and cognac mixed with red fruits. The added piquant spice of the Angostura bitters and bitter finish comes a moment later. When all the elements finally come together with the tobacco smoke atmosphere, the fragrance, with all of its sensations is complete.
