Description
New Years Eve, Harlem, 1924
The snow sparkles in the moonlight almost as much as the beads on the ladies dresses and the slicked back hair of the pomade laden gentlemen making their way to the speakeasy to ring in the new year. Inside, the room is filled with dancing, merry making, and the scents of smoke and bootleg liquor; it is a flapper’s paradise. The intoxicating elixir of sensuality, sophistication, and hopefulness for what the new year will bring is palpable. We become immersed in it, and revel in its excitement.
Fast forward> 2018
Harlem is once again a place filled with excitement for the future; high design, start-ups, and restored brownstones populate this new ‘Uptown’. At the whiskey bar around the corner, the elegant and sexy fill the room with exhalations of the hottest local ‘moonshine’ blended by expert mixologists. The eternal cycle comes back around: what was old becomes new again.

I got a sample of this and approached it cautiously as I wasn’t sure how much smoke was in it. The smoke died down and what was left was a fantastic boozy scent. I can understand when Dawn says scents can make you woozy. I can’t say enough about this scent. Get it now—it’s a fabulous addition.

This is powerful and long-lasting, dabbed some edp on my neck wrist and jugular notch, and it lasted about 8 hours or more and could still detect on wrists 24 hours later. This is a great boozy tobacco vanilla, i.e. gourmand fragrance with a spicy edge particularly in the first 2 hours than a burst of whiskey, shifts the perfume slightly in a new direction but the tobacco vanilla dry down is dominant and consistent throughout my experience of it. It makes TF Tobacco Vanilla seem pretty tame. Completely bowled over it, getting me a bottle!

Wow. Love all the notes, such a sexy boozy scent. Longevity is great!

I love everything about this, from the boozy, semi-sweet opening to the rich smoky drydown. It’s my new favorite DSH tobacco scent — much as I like Parfum de Luxe and Le Smoking, this is even better — more complex, richer, and longer lasting. They are all wonderful, but Uptown Moonshine is really special.

I love this boozy rich scent. A great addition to the holiday collection.

It’s boozy, woody, slightly smoky, and slightly floral, with bits of amber, whiskey, tobacco, and sugar. It balances indulgence with tasteful restraint, boozy but not over-the-top sweet, a sort of resinous compromise of various elements done so well
Overall, this is delightful, a sort of boozy whiskey with amber and some slightly powdery touches that hint at the pine resin vibe of Colorado, and just a bit of floral nuance in there, somewhere. An instant favorite.

A very boozy amber – a nice coca cola opening, in some way, a feisty bergamote, followed by a sweet whiskey, tobacco accord (supported by subtle florals, like jasmine and rose).
It does bring to mind the holidays, which was the idea and thus is a success. I recommend to sample first, however, as I suspect that this fragrance will vary a lot from a person to another (so many notes!)

Such a gorgeous scent! It’s sexy, rich, sweet, and definitely fit for a flapper. It brings to mind a beaded dress under one of those huge cocoon coats. I wore this in the spring and I’m sure it’ll be even better now that it’s colder.

Opens with golden honey and dark brown sugar, drying to reveal the sting of strong whiskey. Rich pipe tobacco emerges, infused with fragrant vanilla beans and creamy caramel with just a hint of salt. The tobacco is joined by warm amber, deepening the scent and smoothing the boozy notes, though the whiskey remains prominent. Dark oak and a touch of charred birch tar give this warm scent a sleek, sophisticated vibe.
This scent brings to mind vivid imagery of a speakeasy around the holidays: amber lamps, smooth woods and rich colors; socialites in the latest fashions chatting cheerfully with a drink in hand, as new arrivals warm themselves by the fireplace. This is an amazingly evocative scent that makes you feel alluring and elegant, drying down to an extremely cozy blend of woodsy amber musk and boozy vanilla. Perfect for a night out, as well as coming home to relax.
Highly recommended for whiskey lovers, also if you’re like me and amp smoke, the smoke here is extremely gentle. DSH is always so skillful when it comes to capturing an emotion or atmosphere in her fragrances, but I found the imagery here especially vibrant. If you’ve been looking for the high-end speakeasy/jazz club vibe, look no further!
