Description
Commissioned by Denver Art Museum for their “Untitled #63: au naturel” event in conjunction with their Passport to Paris exhibit, La Reine des Fleurs was inspired by French artist Eugene Carriere’s late 19th Century painting “Young Girl with Flowers”. The imagine (which can be viewed at dshnotebook) is both dramatic and innocent, sophisticated and youthful. It evokes a kind of interplay of childish things and a lush elegance. It is this sense of beauty in two worlds that is expressed in La Reine des Fleurs.
In perfumery, the Queen of Flowers is of course, the glorious rose. And it is this heart that beats at the center of La Reine des Fleurs, accented by youthful peach, and given a mysteriously, luscious balsamic-vanilla drydown. This rose perfume is as velvety as the petals themselves.
**sample vials of EdP / VdP are 1/2 filled (.5 ml) and Extract/Parfum and Voile Parfum mini roller vials are full (1 ml).
**FYI: the Voile de Parfum format is created with natural IPM.

Another amazing beauty from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, this one starring truly luscious, sweet, fresh, lovely rose. Peach and maybe mandarin notes dance in and out; I catch gorgeous whiffs of jasmine and hints of iris as I move. Like every DSH creation I’ve worn there is a *lot* going on here…way too much for my simple mind to name or analyze. The overall impression is a cool, energizing, enchanting, slightly balsamic rose feast. Very well named!

This is a lovely floral but I wouldn’t call it a strong rose one. In fact, being picky about my rose, the thing I liked most about it is that the jasmine sang through. It is really a composite floral fit for a queen!

Now THIS is a fruity floral! So lush and delicious. Rose does not dominate, rather it helps give this impression of the skin naturally smelling like fresh flowers. The peach note reminds me of the one in Fou d’Opium; like if Fou were Reine back in her maiden days. I’m not normally drawn to chypres, but the subtle moss in the dry down makes so much sense here, grounding the scent just enough. Feels like me.

A bit of a candied sweet scent on first application. I get more peach than rose and then my skin just slurps it up! It is kind of like a my-skin-scent-but-better scent, and honestly the florals are very subtle on me. There’s a period where this leans fruity-powdery-chalky-candy (like smarties…the tablet candy, not the chocolates) but luckily that disappears and more of a velvety rose, slightly green, unfolds. It does feel very luxe and sensual but it’s gone after 2 hours. I find my skin tends to eat up pure floral scents, so perhaps it was a skin chemistry issue.

I love chypres, and I love rose, but I don’t always love rose chypres – they can pull too sour/soapy, but La Reine des Fleurs is a spectacular example of the class. The rose is full-bodied but not dense, and the fruitiness of the peach really rounds it out. The chypre drydown is lovely, and the whole thing feels like you’re wearing the embodiment of a rose garden in full bloom in June, with the sunshine sparkling on the backs of the bees flitting between flowers and everything smells incredible.
