Chestnuts in the woods — what could be more festive?
Considering new and interesting Holiday themed perfumes is wonderful challenge each year and we couldn’t be more delighted this year with this delicious woody gourmand fragrance. Châtaignes du Bois brings notes of warm, cozy wood notes, woodland chestnuts, {both sweet chestnuts and horse chestnuts} freshly fallen, and mixes them with the scent of roasted & sweetened chestnuts ready to be made into your cherished “Fete de Noel” dessert. Oh yes, it’s the best of both worlds!
Happy Holidays!

I have not smelled chestnut in a fragrance before this. The opening is a wonderful chestnut accord, with sweetness from maple. And then subtle smoky woods. A wonderful addition to the holiday lineup.

This is so gorgeous in the cooler weather. Love the combo of notes!

Châtaignes du Bois, or woody chestnuts, a fun gourmand take on the nut, which comes off, to my nose, to involve lots of woods and some sweet boozy, aspects. It comes off like a delicious nutty dessert. So well done!

Opens with a resinous, honeyed sweetness and toasty chestnuts. Notes of fragrant cedar are brightened with a hint of citrusy frankincense, balancing the richness. A touch of oakmoss deepens the scent, evoking the feel of the cold forest outside. Flickering candles bring the scent back inside to the cozy hearth, enveloping the scent in a sheer layer of soft, creamy beeswax.
This is a cozy holiday scent with a woodsy, atmosphere edge that really lets the roasted chestnuts shine. I would like this to soften just a little bit more before I commit to buying a larger size, but I think with just a bit of aging it will be perfect. ETA: After about an hour, it became much softer with a touch of vanilla peeking through, flawless!

A great woody gourmand! Although it is gourmand, it’s not cloying or too sweet at all. The woods perfectly balance the chestnut. It evokes sitting around a fireplace while roasting chestnuts in a winter cabin. 🙂 This is unisex and perfect for a cozy winter night.

Honestly I don’t really know what chestnuts smell like, but this is lovely. I get soft cedar and maple, a little moss and a little balsamic smooth warmth; and a sweetness I don’t recognize but feels “deciduous” somehow, like acorns if the bitterness was taken away, which I assume must be the chestnuts themselves. The beeswax adds something very polished to the wood blend. It’s a lot lighter than I expected. Friendly and cozy.

With its cedar and oakmoss, Châtaignes du Bois leans masculine to my nose but the maple softens it somewhat. I can imagine someone wearing it underneath a heavy wool coat while walking along a snowy street lit by gas lanterns, or while relaxing in front of a fireplace on an autumn night.

Warm, smoky woods with burnt sugar are what I get most prominently, similar vibe to Olympic Orchid’s Woodcut. The chestnuts are there to prop it up and add some nutty and sweeter elements. Not as gourmand as I expected, but still very comforting. One of my favorites from DSH.
