Chinchilla is a fabulous yet understated vintage perfume that seduces at close range. The most gorgeous honey note, a drydown into furry depths and a buzz of a 1920s flapper’s nightlife combine to give the modern individual a classy edge that’s at ease in a crowded supper club or an intimate lounge by the fire. Beautiful and special, yet it could easily be a signature scent.

Dawn Spenser Hurwitz is able to convey texture in a way I have never experienced in perfume. When I smell Chinchilla I FEEL soft fur and leather. It is an amazing trick.
And when I wear this it makes me feel like a glamorous woman in the 1940s waiting to attend a show or an expensive dinner in New York.
When I am really moved by a perfume it is difficult for me to pick out the notes. I would say animalic accords with honey and resins like labdanum.

This is a fantastic animalic if you’re wary of animalics. This is a plush, warm scent that I love in cooler temps because it is an olfactory warm blanket. It doesn’t growl, it isn’t skanky. Instead, it wraps you in a warmed softness. Gorgeous stuff!

This is gorgeous and sexy. A very vintage feeling animalic floral. This can be worn dressed up for an evening out but it also feels very comfy on your favorite sweatshirt curled up on the couch. It opens with this rush of sweet honey and then these soft, powdery florals all with this musky hint of something furry underneath. This was an instant love.

This is so comforting, classy, soft and warm. Fuzzy in the coziest way, like hugging a person you love who is wearing a sun-warmed fur and just a slight, barely-lingering touch of floral perfume. The honey is sweet, but it is not a honey perfume – it just adds to the overall experience. I need a larger size of this pronto!

I used to have chinchillas as pets, so obviously I had to try this and happily I love it – I’m not usually a big fan of musk, but Dawn’s are the exception; her animalics smell cozy and warm and snuggly, versus the more sterile chill of many synthetic musks. I like to wear this in the evenings to snuggle with my husband – it’s very cozy-intimate. “Everything cozy is here” were my notes in my spreadsheet and I stand by that!
