Mahjoun is a warm, three-dimensional representation of honey. While Mahjoun is quite linear in its development, the impression it creates is far from flat. With each inhalation, the beautiful, golden fragrance seems to “lift” from the skin, like a living, moving wisp of honeyed smoke. (For a similar experience, though a different scent, try the lovely Vanille Botanique.) On me, the Mahjoun EdP has medium sillage and longevity.

My favorite DSH fragrances are proving to be the spice-laden ones, and Mahjoun is no exception. I don’t get honey from it as much as brown sugar, which comes to the surface as it dries down and the spice recedes a little. It’s delicious. I can’t wait to wear this in cold weather; I think it’ll be a great comfort fragrance.

A lovely, spicy-sweet scent for fall! The rich, almost raisin-like aroma of dried fruit blends with woods and vanilla to create a warm and exotic aura that lasts throughout the day.

This scent is honey mingled in the incensed air of a spice market. For me, mahjoun is more of a mood scent than a signature perfume. It is sophisticated perfection for evening events on cool end-of-summer nights.

Lightly spicy, just-right sweet. Warm, golden honey with richly fragrant dates, sandalwood and lavendar notes. Beautiful.

Light, warm, and spicy with a bit of sticky pudding in the dry down. This is not a heavy spice bazaar on me, but a lovely, rounded and spiced comfort scent. It does have the same under notes that I get from Vanilla Botanique and Bakul Medjool, both of which I adore, but can give me a headache in the dry down.

The parfum version of Mahjoun, is in my Top 10 of all extract perfumes. The rich spices and decadent honey combine into a phenomenal heady mix. It feels like one is walking through a spice market in Asia, pausing in front of a stall selling honey and almonds and other nuts. Always get compliments with this one, lasts all day and can be worn in Spring and Autumn/Winter.

DSH Perfumes Mahjoun is a fragrance of Dawn’s that I’ve wanted to try for some time, given its intriguing, gourmand-leaning list of notes and positive reception. The actual smell on skin is very interesting, as well, a complex mix of dried fruits, resins, and spices, primarily, to my nose.
It opens quite sweet with the honey and dates taking center stage, and actually dries down a little more powdery on my skin. It’s a pretty loud performer and remains so on my skin for some hours, particularly since it transforms from being a bit sweeter and gourmand-heavy to being a bit sharper, perhaps due to the emergence of nuts, and woodier in the dry down. It’s a curious evolution, contrary to the formula that I’m more accustomed to, but I kind of like that it unpredictably picks up some bite over time. This is quite nice, somewhat indulgent but over-the-top sweet or dessert-like. Rather, it conjures the mood of being among various interesting ingredients as opposed to imminently eating the lot of them,
Priced at a roughly-standard $145 for 60ml in Voile de Parfum concentration (the same concentration as EDP except not based in alcohol), also at $80 for 30ml VDP or EDP, and in various other forms of fragrance and beauty products, Dawn’s pricing is very reasonable and I’d certainly recommend checking this one out. It’s a great performer, overall, and the cost is quite fair.
I don’t love it as much as Café Noir, which is a bit more my speed in terms of darkness, and, of course, coffee, but Mahjoun is a fun, robust exploration of familiar marketplace smells in the form of an overall very satisfying fragrance, one of her many nods to gourmand lovers.

I tried a small sample and now I need to get a bottle. Photorealistic honey from bees whose hive is it the middle of a botanical garden. Sweet but not syrupy sickly sweet just breezily so. The vanilla in here is gorgeous too once you hit the dry down.

A distinctively wonderful gourmand, Mahjoun is one of the best interpretations of the honey theme out there and one of my personal favorites. Its heady, near-but-not-quite-viscous golden sweetness always brings a smile to my face and makes me wish I could hug myself.
