Animal notes have been used in perfumes since the beginning of perfume-making. They impart a sensuality, depth, and tenacity to a perfume that is unrivaled. The traditional animal notes are: ambergris, musk, civet and castoreum. I have included leather notes in this family as well, as they are often an important part of constructing the animalic accord. In the modern era, most perfumes with animal notes are man-made, non-animal synthetics and accords that are created to simulate the original scents.
My menagerie sampler discovery set includes a 1 ml sample vial of my first animalic focused and fur texture studies: Musc al Madina, Rendezvous, Chinchilla, Foxy, and Une Robe de Zibeline.

DSH has a sophisticated and restrained style which makes her animalics very wearable. This sampler not only showcases her range in the animalic genre, but also her ability to convey texture in a way I have not experienced from other perfumers.
Rendezvous – pure sex on the skank scale. This is a realistic civet accord tamed with fruity florals.
Chinchilla – emanates a soft, sophisticated aura that makes me feel like I am wearing a plush fur coat.
Foxy – moderate on the skank scale. Conveys the essence of a (lovely smelling) fox. As in, I literally feel fox energy wearing this perfume.
Musc al Medina – note-wise this is an oud perfume. Stylistically this is a vintage animalic in the French style.
Robe de Zibeline – technically a leather; this is the fur of a sleak, short-haired animal dusted with flowers.
I would also recommend Le Serval.
