Description
As anyone can clearly see, I am (still) deeply obsessed with vintage style (aka Retro-Nouveau) perfumes. And, perhaps, you also know that I have a long-standing love for vintage clothing, imagery, and JEWELRY.
With Emerald Hyrax, I feel that two passions have been fused into one creation. Emerald Hyrax takes its inspiration from the material known as ‘Africa Stone’ or “Hyraceum”, as well as the constant stream of lush green stone, vintage brooch images that danced across my imagination while creating this fragrant gem. (pun intended). I mean, what could be more whimsical and fabulous(!) than an Emerald Hyrax curling up around you? Welcome a new furry friend into the DSH Menagerie.

The multiple directions and paths this luscious scent travels in are as wonderful as a journey-map of a densely-gardened hillside on a hidden island. That’s all I’ll say here; the experience itself is well worth the exploration.

Shapeshifting musky green chypre that starts out quite animalic but this facet fades away to a resinous woody base. Unisex for sure. If “hyrax” scares you, this may be a good one to try! I am fortunate that this was included as a free sample, because I enjoy it much more than I expected. In fact it is one of my favorite DSH perfumes I’ve tried so far.

There’s a softness here that feels almost geological—the kind of green that exists between moss and stone, in those damp crevices where nothing much happens except the quietest possible growth. The space where a fern’s tiniest root might tentatively unfurl, where moisture pools in the smallest shadow, where time seems to pause and collect itself. Like a small, fuzzy creature curling into an impossibly delicate nest of lichen and loam; like a monk’s pillow woven from the most tender moss, bathed in the hazy, frozen light of quartz; like an agate’s whispers of its time spent deep in the earth.
