A perfect incense scent calling to mind the smell of Catholic High Mass, what CDG Avignon tried to be but failed. Not overly heavy, just right.

Cathedral opens with a strong, cold resinous note. The frankincense and myrrh slowly creep in, along with some cardamom and star anise. The effect is very dry spice, but not heavy like Cinnabar. The sandalwood, frankincense, myrrh, and spices counter the coolness, creating a gradual, warming effect. It’s as if you’ve entered a chilly, darkened cathedral, surrounded by the lingering scent of prior Masses; then, in the darkness, someone begins to light candles, one by one. A priest comes through, swinging the censer; the chains clink, the smoke wafts. This is a perfect fragrance for the coldest days of winter. I love it.

I first tried this perfume years ago, and it remains one of my DSH favorites–love the smell of liturgical incense. Cathedral is a good alternative to “Messe a Minuit” and CdG’s “Avignon.”

this is a wonderful church incense fragrance. far more evocative of the church incense i’m used to than the jovoy liturgie & the heeley cardinal. this is an all time fave of mine!

A superb incense blend. I am most familiar with such blends, having frequented a number of monastic communities as guest and purchased same. The olibanum (frankincense), myrrh combination here is beautifully balanced and “true.” I also detect cedar, amber and a cinnamon note.
I like this far better than Adoration, which seemed to me like a not quite realized stop on the way to achieving perfection with Cathedral.
Cathedral is dry, yet warm, and most appealing for both sexes. Quite a fine and subtle olfactory achievement.

The midnight Christmas mass of childhood memories is conjured up with one whiff of this scent. It sets the perfect mood for deep winter nights when I am feeling reflective and nostalgic.

I’ll just say that it is fantastic. It smells pretty much exactly as I’d hoped it would. Extremely pleasing scent. I absolutely love frankincense and this did not disappoint at all, tho it of course offers more than just frankincense. I’ll be ordering a full bottle this Fall.

The single best “churchy” incense fragrance I’ve ever smelled – and “churchy” incense can normally be very hit or miss for me. This is dark and enchanting, and absolutely worth trying if you like this fragrance category or are curious what this type of incense is like! Just know that you might be spoiled for other churchy incense perfumes after trying this, because it’s so fantastic!

This is the perfect “churchy” incense! It’s a lovely blend of frankincense and myrrh with supporting spices that gives the sense of a dry incense blend. No strong harshness like in other “churchy” incense scents. It’s really evocative of wisps of sweet incense smoke wafting through an old wooden church. Highly recommend this scent!

Cathedral is a beautiful, meditative scent. I especially love it when layered with Gum Tree Cabin.

Somehow Cathedral manages to be both the most realistic Catholic mass incense perfume I’ve smelled (and I’ve smelled many popular ones) while also smelling like an actual perfume that you’d want to wear. There is no bitter smoke smell, it almost veers into chypre territory to my nose—It’s just so balanced. I’ll never be without this fantastic perfume.

With notes of nocturnal resins, smoldering incense, and cool, creeping midnight moss, Cathedral from DSH perfumes conjures visions of a lone lantern lit in a solitary tower window away from which runs a stumbling figure in a long, trailing nightdress. What is this poor, doomed creature running from, barefoot across these misty moors on a moonless night? Ghosts, phantoms, and strange sinister spirits? A brooding, turbulent love affair fraught with bitter betrayals? Fearful family curses and dreams, illusions, obsessions, murders. I mean…what isn’t she running from, right? It’s not this perfume. With a resigned sigh, she turns and trudges back. Whatever else is going on in that wicked castle, she can’t leave behind this haunting and quite possibly haunted fragrance. It’s a Choose Your Own Gothic Romance in a bottle.

A very approachable incense perfume of light, sweet resins with a hint of a chypre-like background of bergamot, oakmoss, and sandalwood, and no harsh smoke notes at all. Truthfully, I’d have liked a little more smoke, but this will would be a great introductory perfume for the incense-wary. Among the resins, the myrrh takes the lead on my skin. I like it layered with Aurum Incense for a little more frankincense zing!
