“…If I had them, I’d be King”.

A tongue in cheek, yet unapologetic fragrance that playfully pokes at gender roles.

A stone fig leaf accord, like from a Greek or Roman statue, opens the design which gives way to a more warmed and fleshy fig fruit center paired with a salted rose accord.  As the fragrance transitions into the drydown, a rich, fruity, and slightly animalic Oud note emerges along with fascinating facets of olive fruit – olive wood, warm skin musk, and ambergris.

I think it’s kinda badass.

Description

Inspired by current events, my inner ‘trouble-maker’, and my beloved studio Fig Tree: Cecil.

I have long LOVED this phrase, as it strikes me as both hilarious and deeply serious.  It is all too true.

The notion of gender and gender roles is always in play in society and the world at large as we navigate how to live together on the planet and how we want to live as individuals.   This phrase and how it is adapted to the perfume concept will, I hope, give us a moment of levity, a wry smile and a giggle perhaps, but also a moment to pause and consider how we approach gender and what it means in terms of freedom, power, and expression in our lives.

(I also hope that you will just flat out LOVE the fragrance as a perfume.  I know that I do.  <3 )

I am so surprised that this doesn’t have any reviews yet! I was immediately intrigued by the notes, the narrative, and of course the name of this fragrance (how could you not be?). I didn’t have super clear expectations of this perfume, mainly because I don’t have a lot of experience with oud, animatic, or fig notes. Despite that, this turned out to be the perfect scent for me. The mix of “feminine” and “masculine” elements makes this very sexy, and yet perfectly unisex. When first sprayed, it’s mostly rose with an undercurrent of dark green foliage. Then the woody, musky notes show face and give it a dry, clean, almost incense-y layer while maintaining a complex Rose note. My favorite part of this scent is the salt, which shows up last and sticks around for the duration of the scent.

I find that this lasts around 8 hours, which is stellar! It doesn’t transform very much (at least not on me) but I don’t mind with such an amazing scent!

This is definitely a fun one! A woody, meaty fig that smelled strangely familiar. I spent half an hour sniffing my wrists trying to figure it out, while my significant other gave me the side eye.

“Aha! This is the smell of ballpoint pen ink!” I cried triumphantly, sticking my arm in his face. He dutifully sniffed and jokingly asked if I often spill ink on myself.

Smells great, figgy, and was certainly entertaining. I do wonder if by “balls”, the Queen actually meant ballpoint pens.

Wet it is coconuty and dewy green fig leaf, fleshy fig fruit, and stone/minerals. After a couple hrs it is a skin scent of fig, musk, smoke and salt. The far drydown is golden smelling. It smells like honey, wood, and slightly fruity olive oil.

This was kindly selected for me to sample and I ended up really enjoying it. The musk used here is so skin-like and natural, not at all like laundry, complimenting the green notes rather than fighting them. The bit of saltiness is very fun, and along with the fruit, make this just slightly edible. I will say, I did detect the ballpoint pen essence when I tested on cold winter skin, so I would recommend it as more of a summer scent.

This was a custom pick and I really really love it. The fig and the salt give it a smooth and sexy feel. It’s unexpected and fun. I LOVE it. Will be full sizing it.

DSH included this sample fragrance as a freebie in addition to my chosen free samples, and I was so pleasantly surprised! I never would have chosen this for myself as someone who trends towards very traditionally feminine scents, but I absolutely love the formula here. It’s very sexy without being heavy, the sort of scent that draws you in. Love it!
