Description
“The fluffy, pink and lavender colored clouds of twilight… and the beautiful saturation of everything as the light dims and fades to darkness. I want to bottle it so that I can feel it all of the time”. This is the grand inspiration of Au Crépuscule de Lavande: to put in a bottle that dreamlike feeling I get experiencing twilight.
I also wanted to create a new way of experiencing lavender from so many of the ways that it seems to be presented; whether it is an aromatherapy design or a more classical fougere, lavender is usually a bit terpenic, medicinal, and / or essentially grassy in its feel. Instead, I wanted a full blown retro nouveau perfume that has vintage-y elements and an immense elegance. It should smell of lavender but not make you think “lavender” in the usual way.
What came out of this exploration was ultimately, perhaps, post-modern; a mash-up of the new gourmand style with the vintage leanings of fougere. Au Crépuscule de Lavande is a candied fougere with sweet, savory, almost bakery-like elements with aldehydes, fruit nuances, and flowers. I think it’s magical. I hope that you will, too.

This is one kickass fougere. It is definitely not your grandparents lavender, and yet it smells like it could have been released near the beginning of the 20th century. It’s all warm amber and Tonka and myrrh and tobacco with a definite scent of lavender. I have never smelled anything like it. Though it definitely has a vintage feel, it’s totally modern. I think that this was how people probably felt when Tabac Blond or En Avion were introduced. Au Crepuscule De Lavande has the same warm depth and vintage quality of the classics but somehow it is presented in an entirely new and adventurous way. It is a unisex scent that would be amazing on men or women. I’ve tried both the EDP and the pure perfume version. I love both of them but the perfume lasts longer than any other of the DHS perfumes I’ve tried. My skin basically eats perfume and it lasted on me close to 24 hours. Because this perfume is so original, I would recommend buying a sample before a whole bottle. You may end up hating it : it’s very different and distinctive. But love it or hate it, I think everyone should try it.

I really love this! Lavender and immortelle flower are the two notes that stand out the most to me. Two materials that can be very mishandled and used quite well here to complement one another. This scent is aromatic, sweet, dry but also a little syrupy, smoky but not overwhelming–the fact that it is so hard to categorize is a strength, I believe. It is wholly original while still being very wearable. So well-done and a full bottle is very tempting.

I am a fan of all things lavender. And especially when the fragrance isn’t overpowering or harsh. This is a lovely and very wearable fragrance. And even though it’s unisex, it still is soft and elegant. Put this on, and your body automatically relaxes into a field of lavender and flowers.

I’m always wary of lavender, but this one is very natural, not harsh or perfumey but exactly like the plant: sweet and herbaceous with subtle hints of greenery. A touch of juicy blackberry deepens the flowers’ natural sweetness, while light citrus keeps the green, herbal notes from becoming lost. A base of dry oak is smoothed by soft amber resins, adding a gentle warmth to the homey garden atmosphere.
I’ve never understood the idea of lavender as a calming scent, but this one is quite soft and comforting, a lovely and approachable lavender. If you’ve been looking for something relaxing that smells like the real lavender plant, you’ll love this!

There is something very candy-like about this scent. It gives the feeling of sticky-sweetness, almost like syrup. The herbal-menthol aspect reminds me of Chinese herbal candy (Pei Pa Koa). It starts out as something strongly sweet, herbal, and powdery, but eventually the sweetness and powder become less prominent on me (but still present). The herbal aspect takes center stage then, with an almost savory touch.
While it’s not something I would wear, I think Dawn excellently captured her original idea for this scent. The shifts as experienced in twilight indeed!

The aldehyde and blackberry opening reminds me of flavored sparking water, and fades quickly. The lavender is quiet and soft, and it is equally sharing the stage with immortelle and coumaric tonka bean. I wish I got more lavender from this one; I think the more herbal “aromatherapy” style of lavender is actually what I prefer. Not unpleasant, just not what I was looking for. I think I might enjoy this one more with future wear.
