Could anyone be a greater icon of luxury, glamour, and natural beauty than Elizabeth Taylor? The same could be said for Cartier jewels. Rubis Rosé was inspired by both great icons (Well, Ms. Taylor and the fabulous Ruby Suite necklace by Cartier given to her by her third husband, Michael Todd).
Rubis Rosé is meant to give the impression of a pure, flawless ruby gemstone, faceted to release it’s inner fire; it’s inner radiance to the wearer. There is a luminosity as well as density to Rubis Rosé as it opens with a luscious red raspberry note accented by pink pepper which effortlessly unfolds to reveal a lush, red rose accord. As it dries down a darker, more provocative mood develops with nuances from ambergris, frankincense, myrrh, guaiacwood, and a touch of oakmoss. Once again, opulence is what is meant by this gem in the Brilliant collection.

This is the most delicious rose perfume I have ever experienced. It is a rich, heady perfume that smells both like the lushest, most perfect rose one has ever smelled, and also something else. The scent has depth and complexity – it captures the essential essence of the rose by going beyond it, and incredible staying power. I’m buying more of this and wearing it all through this dreary, gray, cold season to give myself hits of happiness a throughout the day.

The raspberry facet of this rose accord is natural, and beautiful. Dabbed from the sample vial, the rose note is deep and the dry down adds a quiet but complex mix of woods and resins.

It feels like quite a sweet pink rose at first, with some green (like stems?) tempering it. I keep thinking patchouli is in here even though it’s not listed, maybe because this scent reminds me a bit of Frederic Malle’s Portrait of a Lady, but a bit lighter and sweeter. It’s heady and rich and with wear I get more of that raspberry tartness and sweetness! I really love how DSH does berries. The original sharpness of any green notes present goes away soon after. It’s a rose throughout, even on drydown. I can still smell it on my wrists 5 hours later but towards the end of its wear it lingers a lot closer to the skin.

It’s a rose fragrance where a touch of raspberry really deepens the rose note, with a hint of green that keeps it feeling super fresh. The resin base gives it some extra depth, and even though the main notes might seem a bit basic by today’s standards, the beautiful, subtle details make this scent incredibly elegant and rich.
