Our UPCYCL :: One Off Design Lab.
This once “local” secret is now available to all of our clients: a one of a kind perfume creation, made with upcycled bottles, specialty materials from olfactory / visual art projects, and big time creative juice. We will post new arrivals as we make them available every month or two… detailing the scent concept and the note structure.
Our approach to sustainability: DSH Perfumes has a deep commitment to recycling in all of its forms. This includes finding creative and artistic use of all materials — from raw materials sourced for specific projects to packaging components. We strive to keep as much out of landfill as we possibly can… which means we work hard to re-use and upcycle almost everything. We bring you UPCYCL design lab perfumes with these conscious business practices in mind.
As a part of our goal to share the power and beauty of fragrance with the world, UPCYCL :: One Off Design Lab is *donating 50% of our designs to non-profit organizations such as Dress For Success, The Other Side Academy, etc. (Please contact us if you are an organization looking for donations that would of benefit). The other 50% are offered here for your pleasure!

Neroli de Provence is a great neroli fragrance. Most nerolis tend to be on the citrus side and I prefer a more floral neroli. I feel this one hits the right blend with a little of both that drys down into a powdery base.

i love the idea and execution of this series!!! i’ve tried a couple of the scents and they’ve all been unique and wonderful. the short scent notes capture them really well and it’s such a fun way to experiment!!

(Ginger Snap)
Opens with sparkling ginger, made bright and zesty with a splash of citrus. Golden amber surrounds the airy spice, smoothing the ginger with rich labdanum, as a drizzle of boozy caramel sweetens the scent . Peppery clove adds its fragrant warmth, as soft patchouli and toasty sandalwood bring out the spice’s naturally woodsy base.
While the zesty ginger is certainly the most prominent aspect of this fragrance, it’s far more complex than other ginger scents I’ve tried, the base doesn’t overwhelm the ginger at all but instead, slowly brings out its nuances.
This completely transformed on the drydown, morphing into a rich incense: spiced resins blended with smooth, red woods, alongside sweet, fragrant rose petals, and hints of creamy white florals. While I’m not a fan of incense, this smells high quality and doesn’t have that sharp, perfumey smell that makes me avoid them. This is much more natural and makes me think of someone in a golden temple blending the incense into a crumbly, crimson resin.
I generally think of spiced scents as something homey and cozy, and while this has a comforting drydown, this is very sophisticated and makes me think of something one would wear to a winter gala.

What a pleasant surprise to have won a full bottle in a drawing! It was packaged so well too, which was refreshing right after ordering perfume from a certain orange chain store that was just thrown into an envelope with no additional wrapping…Anyway, it’s a great reminder to purchase from small businesses that care. “Afternoon in the Rose Garden” is a fresh, casual rose that’s a bit shampoo-y, in an adult way. Reminds me a little of my childhood in the early 00’s, like what I would’ve thought of as a big girl scent then, even though it’s pretty relaxed. Quality is on par with the house mainline.

I took a chance on a few Upcycl fragrances, I was pleased with the quality and thought they were more than the sum of their parts. Kind of futile to review them individually since they are one and done, but I got Brooklyn Potted Orange which is bright and bitter with a touch of booze, and Green Peppercorn and Pinks which is bright and spicy.
I’ve got my eye on another, if someone else doesn’t snatch it up first.

This was a surprise free sample on one of my orders. Lush is a very apt descriptor for this scent! It’s giving me fruity and almost tropical vibes, all while being grounded in warm woods, and gentle tobacco and leather. I feel like this would be a pretty and feminine scent for summer weather, especially somewhere with humid weather!

Initially I get the passionfruit and grapefruit (looove the smell of grapefruit and it goes so well with the passionfruit here!) along with bright bergamot and delightful peppery notes – which keeps this from being too fruity. Underneath the dryer notes of wood and earthy vetiver emerge, grounding the lighter notes. I find this to be a delightful and uplifting scent!

Upcycl Bamboo Orchid: This is so so calming, very zen. It reminds me of a lotus based perfume. I wear it while meditating. Also great for times when you might be around people who don’t generally like scent. I have a friend who hates perfume, but loves this one. She describes it as a summer breeze and I think that is true.
