Description

Since ancient times, along the Silk Road,  there has been a famous destination at the crossroads of worlds: Samarkand.  (The name alone sounds like a dream).  This new fragrance takes its name and inspiration from this city known for trade in rare spices, aromatics, luxury goods, teas, and fruit.

Taking cues from the luxurious aromatics and teas sold in the markets of Samarkand, this perfume is a an all botanical composition with rare woods, oud, roses, ‘russian caravan’ tea, and subtle fruit nuances.    In keeping with an ancient, ‘dirty’ rose concept, Samarkand uses a complex of natural oud genus’ to create the rich, animalic undertones as well as part of the textural sensation of the fragrance: it literally feels like there is dust on the petals of the roses… sun warmed and dry.

Such a heartwarming perfume! A wonderful blend of spiced, slightly fruity tea, rose preserve and smooth sandalwood. Love it!

SO good. Admittedly I wouldn’t have selected this one on my own, I’m neutral towards rose and tend to be intimidated by oud, but it was kindly thrown into my order. Both are very natural and high quality, with the slightly smoky Lapsang Souchong pulling them together to make something savory and irresistible. I’m not always in the mood for this scent, it’s not what I’d call easy wear, but when I am it really hits the spot. Really different and surprisingly sexy (and very unisex).

  3. AE

Dark rose and fruity tapenade; gentle with good longevity dabbed from a sample.

  4. 04bingkun06 (verified owner)

The fragrance opens with a green leafy fruity scent, moving into a sweet and tart apricot wine and powdery earthy accord with a fairly complex floral part. In addition to the wood, the base seems to have some sense of fermentation, material unknown.

As a scent gal this fragrance is another level! Samarkand opens with a soft, velvety rose wrapped in warm sandalwood, not powdery, not overly sweet. The oud is present but smooth and restrained, adding depth without that sharp medicinal edge. As it settles, it becomes richer and slightly smoky, with a quiet warmth that lingers close to the skin. It feels refined and grounded, more intimate than bold. If you like rose and oud but want something balanced and wearable, this is beautifully done!
