On the Riviera, I was overwhelmed by the charm and grace of my surroundings. The perfume in the air was magnificent. Inspired by the Art Deco movement of the 1920´s and ´30´s, Parfum de Luxe is rich, pure and confident.

**FYI: the Voile de Parfum format is created with IPM, which is not considered a natural product. However, it is the only format that is ship-able for International orders as it is non-flammable by Dangerous Goods standards. EdP, which uses natural alcohol, is considered a Dangerous Good, due to it’s flammability and can not be shipped outside of the continental US.

Dark, rich, luxurious. A burgundy brown satin over antique lace. A perfect blend without any one note standing out, but playing out together in perfect harmony. Floral+ spicy, tobacco+ vanilla.

Smells like “a classic perfume” – many of them sprayed over time, wafting up as you step onto the carpet of the perfumery, all rolled into one. FB worthy. Warm and comforting. I agree that no one note stands out, except maybe a touch of aldehydes, but peeking through… so maybe it’s the geranium.

My love for tobacco scents started a few months ago when I first tried vintage Tabac Blond and fell in love.
Parfum de Luxe reminds me a bit of the older perfume. I think it’s that the delicacy of the tobacco plays so beautifully with the richness of the florals and spices. Truly a beautiful perfume.

I am also a huge fan of Caron Tabac Blond and of tobacco scents in general. I agree that this has a hint of Tabac Blond. It is a little softer, though, and (for me) more suitable for everyday wear, because it feels like a smooth chypre without the more “out there” smokiness of Tabac Blond.

I’m surprised to see that I haven’t reviewed this here before, given that it’s one of my very favorite DSH parfums. As a woman who was raised on what are now considered vintages, finding Dawn Spencer Hurwitz when I came to the time in my life that my nest emptied and I could afford to have a few luxuries was a miracle. Parfum de Luxe is one example of why this is. She makes such beautiful perfume – all the great aspects of the best vintages but her own, modern at the same time as classic. Parfum de Luxe is a deep, rich, just right dirty oriental (that might be classified properly as a chypre but I’m just happy to smell it whatever genre it may be) I am fortunate not to have to go to an office so no concerns about whether this would be appropriate or not. I have the parfum and it wears close enough that I would imagine it would be fine. The tobacco notes are very soft and like most of the DSH scents everything is blended beyond any thoughts of picking through it. It’s the sort of perfume I am repeatedly drawn to while wearing it as this note or that arrives. Divine is indeed a good word for Parfum de Luxe.

I have so many perfume samples in rotation, it’s hard for me to remember which one I wore on any particular day, and how I responded to it, what it smelled like to me etc. I imagine there are other fragrance lovers out there who will understand this! Parfum de Luxe sort of haunted me, it is just that beautiful. I don’t know how to describe notes, or how a fragrance unfolds. All I can say is that this is an elegant, smoky, smooth, warm, wrap me in cashmere kind of a fragrance. I am so happy that such a beautiful fragrance can be created nowadays, given the constraints of what one can use. The great vintages of the past are becoming more and more scarce, and certain components used are getting more rare, are allergenic, illegal etc. And in fact I AM happy that we can no longer plunder the flora and fauna at will for our pleasure. The fragrances by DSH just seem so… timeless, classic and stand with the greats of the past. Parfum de Luxe is just so classy, with a hint of “grunge” around the edges from the leather/smokiness. I hope that makes sense. It’s like a classic, expensive, well-used handbag that is imbued with someone’s signature scent. I also think this would be fantastic on men. Gosh. I wish more men would wear gorgeous scents like this. They’d have women trying to get closer to them, being drawn in by this beauty of a fragrance!

Wow! This definitely smells LUXE! I love tobacco notes and this one is especially nice and beautifully supported by the other notes. It’s rich and warm, but not overly so it never gets overwhelming, and grows sweeter as it dries. I’m still relatively new to perfume and without much experience in classic styles or chypres, but this has me excited to try more. DSH is always impressing me!

This has been my signature scent for almost ten years. It’s a warm classic composition with a nod to an era of perfumery that has been almost lost in modern times. PdL is vintage but not old or matronly. It stands alone in a sea of fruity-florals and gets compliments every time I wear it.

So much a classical parisian perfume. Pure joy to wear. My alternate with Chanel No. 5 when I want a wonderful floral that is just right for any occasion. Beautiful and not overpowering. Just exactly what a fragrance should be.

This knocked me over on first sniff – a surprisingly rich vintage aura. It wears gorgeously, too. I worried it would be too heavy for my taste, but it’s so deftly blended that a light touch on pulse points is more than enough to warm and bloom the full fragrance experience throughout the day. It’s not typically a style I wear, but the notes and reviews convinced me, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
