Description
Inspired by the deliciously moody liquor made from the stems & skins left over from winemaking, known as Grappa. As I associate imbibing this potent potion most often in Venice, Grappa e Bergamotto has been infused with a sense of the wet stones and cool, earthy rain of this ancient island city. In the end, there’s a wonderful balance of cool and warm, sweet and boozy / dry, fresh and earthy that is expressed in Grappa e Bergamotto; a new way of looking at a modern, sheer green chypre.

Opens with the tart scent of fresh, green grapes and a hint of bright citrus. As it dries, a smooth sweetness emerges, blending with creamy jasmine. A soft blend of white florals joins the jasmine, blossoming over a damp bed of moss with subtle notes of rose and gentle sandalwood.
This sounded quite bright and fresh, which isn’t my style, but it’s actually a very smooth, soft blend of the green and citrus nuts. I like this a lot, it reminds me of Avocado Toast but more light and airy. This is not at all the scent I was expecting when I saw fougere and chypre in the description, they generally feel much too masculine for me, but this scent is quite modern and elegant and could be wrong by anyone regardless of gender. A lovely scent for spring and summer, refreshing but very soft and calming.

I am surprised by the absence of reviews for this, as it is a complete winner! It’s a Mediterranean seafront meadow in the heat of summer. All of the fruity softness of Bergamot but with an unsweetened white grape note, an accord that reminds me of standing under an olive tree (!!!), and warm musky woods combine to create a unisex eau de cologne style fragrance. This easily could have been an Hermes jardin scent! Sunshine and smiles in a bottle.
