I ordered a sample along with a few others some time ago. When my sample wore out I found myself feinding for this scent! I’ve sampled quite a few other “milky” scents from other perfumers and found nothing more comforting, buttery, or milky as this. Even though I am not usually a fan of musks, which I do believe I smell here in Au Lait, mainly because they tend to tickle my sinuses. I went for this scent anyway because of the subtly sweet, delicate and cozy sweater feeling I get from Au Lait. which probably has a lot to do with the musk! It’s a seriously addicting scent. Very feminine, warm and soft. Love it! Also, thank you for the samples of “Piment et Chocolate” and “Cordial” both of which are very sophisticated and intriguing.

This scent is addictive. It’s sweet, but not a cloying, sticky sweet. This is actually my “bedtime” perfume – I’ve gotten in the habit of applying it before bed.

You’ve heard of “comfort food”, well this is “comfort scent”.I was bummed when our local apothecary which carried Au Lait closed. This was a scent my husband found and would buy for me. I was thrilled to see that I could purchase it directly online. I use it first thing in the morning and last thing at night, with refreshers during the day. I love it!

I got the pulse roller oil form. Oh my it is so luscious and lasts so long! I could smell it the next day! As with the oils it is subtle but when you move or the air moves the scent wafts gently around you. It has that soft “milk” smell in the background but luscious spicey oriental type scent overall. Warm and comfortable…like an old friend. Love it! WIll be wearing it a lot!

The smell of innocence in a bottle. I have many scents that I love to play with and choose for my wardrobe for the day. This is one that I think is beautifully achieved. Simple notes that create a sense of safety, warmth, and innocence. It is a very gentle and joyful scent.

I got a sample of this scent, and it was a while before I tested it. What a perfect scent for winter! Usually I gravitate towards wood/incense/leather scents, but this is so warm and comforting. You are very small, your mother wearing a simple cashmere sweater and creamy pearls and spoon-feeding you warm milk custard. It this mix of incredibly elegant and incredibly comforting at the same time. There’s a clean, skin-musk scent as it dries down. This. Scent stays close to the skin, not much sillage. I love this!

AU LAIT is HANDS DOWN the most delicious, most natural and beautiful sweet milk perfume I have ever tried in my life! No plastic, nothing bitter, no burnt notes, just hours of gently sweet creaminess. The longevity is excellent! Wears as a skin scent, but that’s perfect for my purposes.
It’s unquestionably a holy grail gourmand and so perfect now that the temperature is starting to drop.. Thank you DSH, for ending my quest for the perfect milk perfume. It’s a very realistic can of sweetened condensed milk changing to fresh vanilla buttercream frosting. Exactly.

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Au Lait is nice, sweet, and clean. It’s heralded in various online fragrance community as THE milk scent, and I do get notes of condensed milk and vanilla; on me, this is more of a vanilla fragrance than a caramel one, and it’s not much like steamed milk at all.
While I find this fragrance pleasant enough, the musk note is apparent right from the beginning (I usually expect musks in the drydown), and it just throws off the comforting, foody scent of the perfume. There’s something about it that makes my nose and throat feel “uneasy,” even though it doesn’t make me sneeze. When I was a kid, I stupidly decided to rub Johnson & Johnson baby wash on my tongue to see what getting my mouth washed out with soap would be like (I used to read about it happening to characters in books, and I was an impressionable and weird kid), and something about that note almost puts the taste of a light, clean baby soap back on my tongue. I know I’m the odd one out here, but while I could fall asleep with this on after hours of wear, there’s no way I could sleep with this freshly applied before bed. It’s just too perfumey and not foody enough.
The sillage of this fragrance is not huge, but the scent does last for hours on me when applied in and near the baby hairs at the sides of my neck.

Although many people seem to feel that this scent reminds them of their mom when she used to give out warm milk on many a sleepless night throughout childhood, my reaction has been slightly different. I actually think that this milk smells just like sweetened condensed milk right out of the can. Don’t get me wrong. I’m absoluely NOT putting it down. This is a pleasant smell for me because whenever I was using this type of milk, I was baking sweets as a child (and I still do)! Furthermore, I don’t know about everyone else, but I actually like to wear perfume at night (in addition to the day). I wear it at night to help me to fall into sleep and to have sweet dreams (hopefully). Anyway, this is one of the perfumes that I love wearing at bedtime– it’s perfect for that! Breathing milk in and out is simply mmmmmmm!

There is not a lot for me to add to the other reviews of this great fragrance. I tried a sample the other day and my four year old goddaughter told me I smelled like vanilla ice cream, a very high compliment and pretty accurate. This is a very warm comforting scent. I love wearing it to bed : I think that it leads to beautiful dreams.

Lovely, comforting and delicate scent. To me there is a floral aspect, along with dreamy milk and vanilla. Fragrance is very subjective, and what one person loves, another person–not so much. I like this because it hovers somewhere (to my nose) between floral and gourmand. I took off one star mainly because it had no longevity on me at all. Perhaps if I tried another format–such as layering over a body lotion of the same scent.

This smells like a Delicious warm hug! Its so comforting, i love the soft vanilla side to this fragrance, almost like you scooped some vanilla icrecream on top of melting butter pooling into a puddle of creamy milk. Longevity is good too, its not a loud fragrance but its present enough to announce its presence in any room, people are always asking me why i smell so delicious? I find this fragrance so soothing, and catch myself sniffing my wrists all day just to get my fix. Hats off to this creation!

I love this one. It’s like a comforting soft blanket. It’s my favorite scent to spray on to feel relaxed and cozy when I don’t want a deeper louder gourmand. It’s sweet milk, and milk may sound like a funky note to some but think milk bath milk lotion not glass of milk. Nothing sour here just sweet smooth and delicious. Almost a hint of butterscotch here too.

Very very gentle vanilla, milk and amber scent. Reminds me of Kuumba Vanilla Musk but much, much quieter. This is a super soft skin scent more like sweet cream than milk, but powdery and not buttery. I detect amber or musk that gives it a little bit of a clean and powdery feel and gives it a colder temperature if that makes sense. A nicely done milk fragrance.

As the name implies, it’s a sweet, milky, vanillic skin scent. My favorite that I’ve tried from DSH. Compared to Vanilla Chantilly this has more emphasis on a milk note. Description of “warmed milk scent” is spot on. I imagine it’d layer nicely with some warm spicy scents, too. Even though this is a little sweet and vanillic you can totally wear it year round. So effortlessly sexy. Simplistic and linear – yes – but in an absolutely stunning way. Sometimes less is more – and this is the perfume for that phrase!

I bought this not sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised! I smelled powdered milk vibes with a bit of coconutty sweetness on me, fading to a normal but warm skin scent. It gives me the feeling of a warm, fuzzy baby cardigan. I can see this being a great layering perfume during the colder months!

Opens with a gentle lactonic note with a subtly powdery finish. It seemed like it might disappear into my skin at first, but it’s quickly strengthened by musky ambrette seed, though something with my skin chemistry causes it to go surprisingly balsamic and woodsy.
Creamy vanilla helps to smooth the bright edges, deepening the scent with a touch of softened butter and bringing a nutty warmth to the base. The top notes have transformed from balsamic to the impressively realistic scent of fresh milk.
I thought this might ruin my perfect hit rate with DSH, but it’s the most realistic milk note I’ve tried and just abstract enough to be wearable. I will say prefer more of a heavy cream, so I would have liked a bit more rich, but it is sold as a milk scent, so that’s on me, and it’s definitely a quality fragrance
This would be nice for a skin scent when you just want something calming that won’t bother anyone, or for something soft and comforting before bed.

Much has been said about this one already. It is fresh milk from the cow. No added sugar or flavor, not even powdered milk. Pure, fresh milk.
I opened my package next to my two-year old daughter. She saw me dabbing my wrist and claimed she wanted some. I put this one on her. It smelled beautiful. She was sniffing her wrist all afternoon.

Somehow, I get coconut from this! Definitely a thick and gooey lactonic scent, a bit like condensed milk, but the coconut in this is quite strong! I don’t get much vanilla, nor does this morph much with wear. I think if it hadn’t been for the coconut, this would have been a great lactonic scent for me, but I’m searching for a Pure Milk.

This is the scent that originally made me take the chance in ordering. This is a real milk note. I have not been into perfume for long, so take this review with a grain of salt. I find so much comfort in scents and have been testing a lot of different scents. It is a skin scent, very soft and lightly sweet and lasts for quite awhile. On me it turns a direction I didn’t want to go. But it is none the less a beautiful creation.
