The Resin/Incense family denotes perfumes and single notes that are rich, balsamic, earthy, sweet, spicy, and smoky. Traditionally, Incense notes would be considered in either the Chypre or the Oriental families, however here we wish to create a family of its own to recognize the unique character of the notes involved.

dirty ROSE (Natural)
A rose like no other: dirty ROSE. The image of a single rose that has been a bit manhandled; bruised and dragged through the mud which gives it its rugged beauty. Although dirty ROSE is a rose based perfume the note does not dominate; it is interwoven throughout the fragrance, continuing to grow as it dries down. And ladies...he may just borrow this; its a shared experience.

Mystery of Musk project - version 2: musk of the mosque
An alternate theme when designing for the Mystery of Musk project.

An oriental musk perfume that expresses a more reverent, sacred side of musk. Early mosques were built with musk grains mixed into the mortar so that when the morning sun heated the stones, the scent would be released as an offering to prayer and to God. musk of the mosque ismore rose and incense rich. To me, it is the scent of the Sufi dance.
All of the Mystery of Musk perfumes are mixed at 30% perfume concentration. (**I used some aged materials from my personal collection: rare east indian sandalwood, east indian patchouli and labdanum).

Secrets of Egypt: Arome d'Egypte (special edition PERFUME)
Ancient. Occult. Immortal.

Inspired by the perfumes of the Pharaohs. While developing a collection of ‘scent studies’ on one aromatic note, DSH chose spikenard, an ancient root used extensively in early Egyptian perfumes as a focus. Spikenard, a botanical relative to valerian, is used to soothe, relax and bring one into a meditative realm. When mixed with incense resins and spices it is truly intoxicating. An equally suitable fragrance for a man as for a woman, Arome d’Egypte brings you back to the seductive world of the Ancients.

Secrets of Egypt: Cardamom & Khyphi (special edition PERFUME)
KYPHI (an alternate spelling is Khyphi) is probably the most famous of all early Egyptian perfumes handed down to us from antiquity. Kyphi is the Latin version of the Greek translation of Kapet in Egypt which was originally a general term for fumigation through smoke and was used in the temples. Eventually Kyphi developed a particular recipe and ‘brand’. Primarily used as an incense, Kyphi was also used as a remedy for such ailments as nightmares and snake bites.

Secrets of Egypt: MEGALEION
Perhaps the world’s first “designer fragrance”...
Although the origin of this scent is not entirely clear, it is said to be named for the inventor, one ‘Megalus’. It could also be named for the place, Megale near Syracuse, where it was allegedly prepared or simply to reflect the degree of it’s importance as megalos means ‘great’. By the time of Pliny the Elder, Megaleion had achieved a kind of celebrity due to it’s extreme cost, complexity of ingredients and the painstaking method of it’s production. According to Theophrastus, “to make Megaleion the oil must first be boiled for ten days and nights and only then do they put in the resin and other things, since the oil is more receptive when it has been thoroughly boiled”.
MEGALEION Egyptian Oil PERFUME has been created for Denver Art Museum’s KING TUT exhibit, 2010. The Mummy Presentation is a hand blown, signed + numbered original bottle embellished with 14kt. gold-fill wire, lapis lazuli and pyrite gemstones.
